What it is: As a Database Administrator, you will work under guidance of our Lead DBA to support the ongoing maintenance and expansion of our database systems, using Microsoft SQL Server and other emerging public cloud technologies. This role will focus on operational database administration and automation, rather than new product development. A developer mindset, however, will serve as an asset, as this role will help lead our ongoing efforts to maximize DBA impact and efficiency using public cloud automation tools within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform. The role will provide support for both live production and development database systems.
What it isn’t: This role is not a traditional 9-to-5 job. You will participate in an on-call team rotation and work projects that require some night/weekend hours. As a production DBA, this role will involve exposure to high-visibility, high-pressure issues that require relentless support of our client needs at potentially any hour of the day. But you will be part of a strong DBA team that has earned a reputation for working successfully to prevent such fire drills. This is also not a role for those who prefer to work individually. Your ability to succeed in this role and, again, maintain a healthful balance between work and home will rely greatly on the relationships you form with your surrounding team.
What we need: We are looking for high-energy candidates who thrive in social, team-oriented work environments and bring a passion for the success of our clients and internal product development teams.
Candidates with a BS in Computer Science or other technical discipline are preferred. We will limit our focus to candidates with three years of professional experience developing and improving SQL scripts and core database administration and tuning processes. However, experience with development and administration of database solutions in the AWS platform is a strong plus, and would provide for flexibility on other areas of experience depth. Development experience using PowerShell, C# and/or SQL Server Integration Services is a plus. The skills above will be tested during the screening process.
Beyond the above technical requirements, success in this role will also rely on an ability to manage database streamlining and automation projects with a high degree of independence, with each individual project potentially spanning multiple weeks or months. We seek candidates who are disciplined, motivated and able to communicate effectively with the involved technical teams, business partners and customers. This role will involve a significant amount of daily assistance and mentoring for, and from, other members of a Data Operations team.
